ABOUT US

Society in assam With 22+ Years Experience.

Society for North East Handmade Paper Development (SNEHPAD) is a voluntary organization established in 2005 with its headquarters at Jorhat, Assam. The organization was founded with the vision of promoting village and cottage industries, particularly handmade paper, natural fibre, and other traditional livelihood activities, to create employment and income-generation opportunities for youth and women across Northeast India. Guided by its founding leaders, including Sri Jatindranath Das, Syed Altaf Hussain, and Sri Prakash Thakur, SNEHPAD began its journey by supporting handmade paper and natural fibre enterprises and gradually expanded its activities in response to the needs of local communities.

Over the past two decades, SNEHPAD has evolved into a multifaceted development organization working in areas such as handloom promotion, Self-Help Group (SHG) development, sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship development, microfinance, skill training, and integrated village development. The organization actively conducts awareness programmes, capacity-building initiatives, and livelihood interventions aimed at improving the socio-economic condition of poor and marginalized communities.

In the current phase, SNEHPAD is primarily focused on the development of the handloom sector, recognizing its immense potential for livelihood generation, women’s empowerment, and preservation of the rich weaving heritage of Northeast India. The organization is actively implementing Cluster Development Projects among weavers, artisans, and organic farmers through the formation of community institutions, establishment of decentralized Common Facility Centres (CFCs), and operation of Yarn Banks. These initiatives are helping to strengthen local production systems, improve product quality, enhance market access, and facilitate financial inclusion for rural producers.

In addition to livelihood promotion, SNEHPAD regularly undertakes environmental and welfare activities such as tree plantation drives, health camps, yoga training, livestock vaccination, and the distribution of tools and equipment to needy beneficiaries. Through skill development, entrepreneurship promotion, market linkage support, and community-driven development initiatives, SNEHPAD remains committed to building self-reliant communities and fostering sustainable and inclusive growth across Northeast India.
